Who We Are

We are a local assembly of followers of Jesus Christ. We have found life, and hope in Christ. Together, we believe the Bible as the Word of God and we are learning every day to walk in Christ, and with one another.

We would love you to come and worship with us!

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)

Our Pastor

Currently Cornelia Avenue Baptist Church, Chicago, has Rev. Andre Hope filling the pulpit for the Church as we look for a permanent under-shepherd. We continue to pray that the Almighty God will continue to lead His servants toward the trajectory He wants us to go. We believe and trust that we will all reach there.

Our History

Cornelia is an independent congregation affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention, the Illinois Baptist State Association and the Chicagoand Baptists {formerlyMetro Baptist Association). Cornelia was formed as a local body of believers in the 1950’s.

Our church occupies a frame building built around 1897. The sanctuary is a classic circular design. The building is believed to be the work of the Chicago firm of Daniel H. Burnham and John W. Root.

Our building is the home of the classic pipe organ built in 1898 by the Lyon & Healy Company of Chicago – the “opus 1429”. It is listed with The Organ Historical Society, Chicago-Midwest Chapter. As a historical organ it is scheduled on the Annual Autumn Crawl.
